Inshore fishing is about tides more than anything else. Here's the cliff-notes version.
Water rising. Bait gets pushed onto flats and into mangroves. Snook and redfish move shallow to ambush. Best for: sight fishing the flats, mangrove-line action.
The brief pause between in and out. Bite often slows — but big fish use slack to move between spots. Best for: repositioning the boat, deeper structure fishing.
Water draining. Bait gets pulled off the flats — predators stack at the edges and in the passes. Best for: snook in passes, redfish at flat edges, big trout.
The two hours around either side of a tide swing are usually the best window of the day.
